It is with profound sorrow and immense love that we mourn the passing of Louvice McMurtry, also known as (Sister Baby) an extraordinary woman of grace and strength. She is preceded in
death by her loving parents: Willie Mae and Mack Quille Lewis; her sisters: Charlie Mae Diggs and Hattie Mae Lewis; her brothers: RC and Lawrence Quille Lewis (Susan). She professed her
faith in Jesus Christ at an early age at the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Carthage, Mississippi; a faith she maintained until her last earthly breath.
Born on March 24, 1950, in Carthage, Mississippi, Louvice lived her 74 years with a vivacity and passion that was truly unparalleled. She received her formal education at Thomastown/Greer High School in Carthage, Mississippi, graduating in 1969. After graduation she relocated to Chicago, Illinois but she maintained a relationship with her high school besties: Carloyn, Gloria and Margaret. She met her husband Robert McMurtry Sr., in 1970 in Chicago, IL and
they were married on July 11, 1971. She was employed at Alloy Manufacturing company for over thirty years and later at Cintas for twenty-four years until her retirement. She was a dedicated,
dependable worker and took pride in her work. She transitioned from this life on November 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and fortitude that will forever be cherished.
Louvice embodied an extraordinary spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a woman of many talents with a heart full of compassion and generosity. Her unwavering love for her family was always evident – she was a rock and a beacon of hope for her loved ones, always there to lend a listening ear or a comforting word. In the words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never
forget how you made them feel.” Louvice made everyone she encountered feel loved, valued, and special.
Louvice is a vital part of our lives, she is also a light that will continue to shine brightly in our hearts. As we bid our temporary goodbye to this incredible woman, let’s remember the words of Grief.com founder David Kessler, “Grief only exists where love lived first.”
Louvice is survived by her husband, Robert McMurtry Sr.; her daughter Kayeecha McMurtry (Carlos); son, Robert McMurtry (Erica); and bonus daughters: Debra McMurtry and Brenda McMurtry. Her brother McLewis (Edna); her sister Shirley Perez, (Tamekia). The love of her life was her grandson, Deshawn Sain (Jasmin) and three great-grandchildren: Deshawn Sain Jr.,Marshawn Sain and Jade Sain. Her nephew/brother, Robert Lewis (Dora); great-nieces: Rachel and Robin; nephews: Andre Lewis, Bull Lewis, Marcus Lewis and Meco Lewis; and special friend for life Alcola Harris (Johnny). A host of in-law’s, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, cousins, too many to name and a neighborhood of supporters! Each of them will remember her as an indomitable spirit, a steadfast friend, and a loving mother, sister, cousin, and wife.
