SSG Leslie C. Jones (US Army Retired), affectionately known as Lolly, was born on June 6, 1965, in Chicago, IL, USA. She left us too soon on February 17, 2025, leaving a void in our hearts that can never be filled. Her life was a testament to her ambitious spirit, her resilience in the face of adversity, and the spirited passion she had for life. Leslie was a woman of courage, who exemplified strength in every step she took, and every decision she made.
Leslie was a remarkable woman who served her country with honor and unwavering commitment. After spending most of her life in service, Leslie retired from her administrative role in the Army in 2006. Her courageous and spirited attitude earned her several awards and recognitions, including the Army Reserve Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. Leslie was an ambitious and resilient woman, who managed to balance her military career with her personal life, and her love for working out and music.
Following her retirement, Leslie moved to Oak Lawn, Illinois, where she spent quality time with her loved ones. Leslie's resilience and love for her family were the pillars that held her family together. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Candace Garfield, and her Son Gregory D. Robert S. Jones (preceded in death) Veronica L. Blackmon, Brian T. Jones, Kimberly R. HallJones and Bradley J. Jones, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews. But perhaps the role she cherished most was being a grandmother to her five grandchildren. Leslie's love for her family was immeasurable, and their memories with her are filled with the joy and laughter she brought into their lives.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Martin Jones, and mother, Katherine Ann Jones. To honor As we remember Leslie, we find strength in the verse from the Bible, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9).
