Eva Bracken was born on December 5, 1935 in Benton Harbor Michigan to the union of Blanch and Samuel Bracken. She was the fourth of six children. She attended and graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1953 where she was an excellent student and played soft ball.
Eva attended Pilgram Baptist Church in Michigan under the leadership of Rev. W.E. Ellis where she was baptized and accepted Christ as her personal Savior. After moving to Chicago, she joined Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Body and later Reverend Henry Bracken. She sang in the choir with a beautiful voice, and cooked and served dinners to people who were hungry and in need.
Eva pursued many jobs in the retail and service industry. She eventually ventured out on her own and became an entrepreneur, purchasing a bistro called the Blue Star.
She was a woman of remarkable spirit, courage, and boundless love. Eva possessed many talents and interests. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, solving crossword puzzles, singing, caring for others, and spending time with her family. She was a champion of the everyday;finding beauty in the simplest things and teaching others to do the same. She embodied the essence of the phrase “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, but it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” Eva danced through life with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She always put the needs of others before her own and served as an inspiration to those around her.
Eva departed this life on Saturday January 11, 2025 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
