DeVera Jones was born on April 17, 1960, to the unlon of Ervin Sprull, Sr. and Ora Lee Sprull in Chicago, Illinois.
DeVera received her childhood education in the Chicago Public School System and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1978. She later attended Everett Community College in Merrionette Park, Illinois where she received her Medical Assistant Certificate in 2012.
DeVera accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was united at Faith Temple Church of God of Christ as a Missionary under the leadership of Bishop William H. Allen and Elder Ronald Blumenberg, and later joined New Joy City under the leadership of Superintendent Jeffrey Ball.
DeVera was united in holy matrimony to her Ist husband, Michael Jones, in 1978, and to this union was born one son, Michael Wilbur Jones. DeVera was married to her 2nd husband, Terry Spencer, in 2000, and to this union were born two children, Christopher Steven Spencer and Franklin Gerald Spencer.
De Vera was employed at Rush University Medical Center for 5 years and Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital for 10 years where she was employed until her death.
In her leisure, DeVera enjoyed serving her church community, singing and directing the choir, spending time with her family, and traveling. She shared a very special bond with her grandson, Caleb, and her close friends, Debra Winding, Catherine Flowers, and Latasha Denise Davis.
DeVera departed this life on Saturday, March 8, 2025. She is preceded in death by her father: Ervin Sprull, Sr., and several uncles and aunts.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her mother, Ora Lee Sprull; 3 children: Michael Wilbur Jones, Christopher Steven Spencer and Franklin Gerald Spencer all of Riverdale, IL; 8 siblings: Ervin Sprull,
Jr. (Alicia), Denise Sprull, Rex Sprull, Ronnie Sprull (Marte), Chandra Shannon (Kevin), LuVera Shields Christie Sprull and Juanita Seya (Tino): 2 grandchildren: Javonte Hassell and Caleb Levi Spencer, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Though DeVera's journey on earth has ended, her spirit remains woven into the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Rest in peace, DeVera. Your legacy lives on.
